Print | PDFPlease join us in Laurier's Maureen Forrester Recital Hall for two special events for piano teachers, students, families, and piano music lovers of all ages!
On Sunday, March 4 from 2-4 p.m., delight in the performances of specially chosen gifted high school and university piano students. Then listen as the students receive coachings from distinguished guest, concert pianist and notable speaker Walter Delahunt. Maestro Delahunt has performed piano duets with Martha Argerich and appears with many other major international artists throughout Europe and globally.
As a special opportunity for all pianists in the audience, a vintage original Streicher fortepiano from the era of Schumann, Liszt, and Brahms will be set up onstage, and those interested audience members who arrive a half hour early will be invited to take a turn to try the instrument.
On Monday, March 5 at 8 p.m., a rare and unforgettable concert, Music of Schumann and Brahms, will be presented. The program will open with a performance of music by Clara Schumann on the vintage Streicher fortepiano, played by Heather Taves. Next, the young emerging pianist and Laurier student Marko Pejanovic will play a work written by the young Johannes Brahms. These Variations on a theme by Robert Schumann were penned soon after a 20-year old Brahms first knocked on the door of the Schumann household in 1853. This will be followed by a piano duet by Brahms, performed by Walter Delahunt and Heather Taves. After intermission, Maestro Delahunt will play Brahms late masterpiece, the Intermezzi Opus 118. The evening will conclude with a Brahms Hungarian Rhapsody for piano duet.
Tickets are available through Ticket Scene.
Please note the dates for this event have changed from its previously advertised days of March 15 and 16.
